If you’ve ever braced for impact while driving down Loop 360 after a heavy rain, or felt that familiar thump-thump on a side street in Cedar Park, you know the feeling. Travis County roads have a personality of their own, and sometimes that personality is a bit… jarring. Those sudden jolts and unavoidable potholes aren’t just an annoyance; they’re a direct assault on your vehicle’s suspension and alignment. Before you know it, your trusty Chevy is pulling to one side, feeling more like it wants to exit onto the Mopac Expressway all by itself.

It’s a common story for Austin drivers, but it doesn’t have to be yours. Understanding when your vehicle needs a wheel alignment is key to a safer drive, longer-lasting tires, and a better overall driving experience.

Signs Your Chevy Needs to See an Expert

Your vehicle is great at communicating, you just have to know what to listen—and feel—for. If you notice any of these signs, it’s a good bet our infamous local roads have knocked your alignment out of whack:

  • A Persistent Pull: On a straight, flat stretch of road (like Research Blvd right outside our doors), does your vehicle drift to the left or right without you turning the wheel? That’s the most classic sign of a bad alignment.
  • Off-Center Steering Wheel: Are you holding your steering wheel at a slight angle just to drive straight? The steering wheel should be level when your wheels are pointed straight ahead.
  • Uneven Tire Wear: Take a look at your tires. If you notice the tread is wearing down much faster on the inside or outside edges, your alignment is likely the culprit. This is a costly problem if left unchecked, as you’ll be replacing expensive tires far too soon.
  • Sloppy Steering or Vibration: Does the steering feel loose, or do you feel a vibration through the steering wheel? This can indicate a number of issues, with wheel alignment being a primary suspect.

The 2026 Chevrolet Traverse: Built for Texas, Maintained in Austin

Even the most capable and modern vehicles aren’t immune to our road conditions. Take the incredible new 2026 Chevrolet Traverse. This SUV is practically designed for the Austin family lifestyle. With its spacious three rows, it’s perfect for hauling the team to a game in Round Rock or loading up gear for a day at Lake Travis. The Z71 model, with its all-terrain tires and off-road-tuned suspension, is more than ready for a weekend adventure in the Hill Country.

Chevrolet engineered the 2026 Traverse for a smooth, confident ride, packing it with advanced safety features and a refined suspension system. But for that technology to work as designed, the wheels must be perfectly aligned. A proper alignment ensures the Traverse’s sophisticated driver-assist systems get accurate information and that its impressive handling remains sharp and responsive. Protecting your investment and ensuring your family’s safety starts with fundamental maintenance, and our expert Chevy service center is here to help.

The Ultimate Towing Partner: The 2026 Silverado 1500

Chevrolet has outdone itself with the 2026 Silverado 1500. This isn’t just a refresh; it’s a complete evolution in towing technology and driver confidence. When you’re navigating the hills on Loop 360 with a MasterCraft in tow, you’ll appreciate the sheer power of the available 6.2L V8 engine. But the real game-changer is the all-new Trailering Command Center.

This integrated system offers multiple high-definition camera views, including a revolutionary “Boat Ramp Guidance” mode that provides dynamic guidelines to help you back down the ramp perfectly every time. No more stressful launches with a line of impatient boaters behind you. The 2026 model also introduces an enhanced cooling system, engineered to handle the brutal stop-and-go traffic on Mopac without breaking a sweat, even when pulling maximum weight. It’s the kind of peace of mind every Texas truck owner deserves. If you’re ready to upgrade your lake day experience, it’s time to shop new inventory and see what the future of towing looks like.

Your Pre-Lake Day Service Checklist

Before you head out from Round Rock or anywhere in Travis County, a quick vehicle check-up is the smartest thing you can do. A beautiful day can be quickly ruined by a preventable issue on the side of the road. Our certified technicians can get your truck ready for the season.

Here’s what we recommend checking before you hitch up:

  • Tires: The asphalt on US-183 can get incredibly hot. We’ll check the pressure and tread on your truck and trailer tires to ensure they’re ready for the heat and the load. Proper inflation is your first line of defense against a blowout.
  • Brakes: The steep grades around Lake Travis demand brakes that are in top condition. We’ll inspect your Silverado’s brake pads, rotors, and fluid, and also remind you to check your trailer’s brake system if it has one.
  • Fluids: Coolant is king in Texas. We’ll make sure your engine coolant, transmission fluid, and oil are all at optimal levels to prevent overheating under the strain of towing.
  • Hitch and Wiring: A secure connection is non-negotiable. We’ll inspect your hitch for any signs of stress or wear and test your wiring harness to ensure your trailer’s brake lights and turn signals are synced perfectly with your truck.

Don’t leave it to chance. A quick visit to our service center can ensure your only worry is whether you packed enough sunscreen.

Smart Towing Tips for the Austin Area

Once your Silverado is prepped and ready, keep these local tips in mind for a smoother trip:

  1. Time Your Trip: If you can, try to beat the weekend rush. Leaving early in the morning not only helps you avoid the worst of the traffic but also makes finding a good spot at the ramp much easier.
  2. Give Yourself Space: Towing increases your stopping distance significantly. On highways and local roads, leave extra room between you and the vehicle ahead.
  3. Post-Lake Rinse: Lake water, especially if you’re launching in a brackish area, can be tough on your trailer and undercarriage. A quick rinse-off after your trip can go a long way in preventing corrosion.

2025 Chevy Silverado HD is an off-road machine

The 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD is a tough, rugged pickup that can carry and tow huge loads. It also includes a range of advanced driver-assist safety features to protect you on the road. We’re going to dive in and see how some of these systems keep you safe.

Front Pedestrian Braking

When you’re driving in the city, distracted or rushed pedestrians can sometimes step into your path without realizing it. This can happen with very little warning. If you’re driving in the suburbs or in a rural area, animals can also unintentionally move in front of you. Front Pedestrian Braking protects you, pedestrians, and animals from accidents by alerting you to the danger.

The system uses a forward-facing camera that scans the road ahead for pedestrians or animals. If something is detected, a yellow box will appear around the object on your screen to alert you. The yellow box turns to red, and you’ll hear warning beeps or feel seat pulses if a collision is possible. If you don’t hit the brakes, the system automatically applies hard braking to stop your Chevy and prevent an accident.

Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking

This system uses radar and a camera to identify any vehicle in front of you. If a vehicle is detected, a green icon will appear on your screen. The system radar measures the distance between your Chevy and the other vehicle and compares this to your speed to determine if you’re too close. If you are, the green icon will turn yellow to warn you that you’re tailgating.

If the system determines you’re moving too fast and an accident is possible, a red flashing icon will appear, and you’ll receive seat pulses or hear beeping, depending on your alert choice. If you’re unable to brake in time, Automatic Emergency Braking proactively brings your Chevy to an almost instant stop to prevent a collision.

Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert

This safety feature is standard or available depending on your trim, and it helps protect you from accidents when you change lanes. Side Blind Zone Alert uses radar sensors in the rear corners of your Chevy to detect any vehicle that enters a blind zone. When something is detected, a yellow icon will appear in the corresponding side mirror.

If you’re actively changing lanes when a vehicle enters a blind spot, Lane Change Alert provides a flashing yellow icon in the corresponding side mirror, and you’ll hear warning beeps or feel seat pulses. The steering wheel will also gently pull you back toward your original lane to prevent an accident.
